In most doctor/patient relationships, the doctor may have the knowledge but often does not have the time to listen closely, understand the patient, their lifestyle, and areas of resistance. Maybe they give suggestions and advice, but rarely is there follow up, or even inquiry into where the patient is challenged.
On the other hand, the doctor can only do what the patient allows. Even if there is a personalized, comprehensive plan, the patient may or may not follow through for a number of reasons. As a health coach, not only an Integrative Medicine doctor, Dr. Shad takes it as his responsibility to explore this with his clients and come to agreements that work for them.
“Over the years I have seen successes and failures in doctor/patient relationships. If there was one single factor I could highlight, it would be – commitment. All success requires commitment – on the part of the health professional as well as the client.” – Dr. Shad
